Herbement Castle - Medieval castle, partially reconstructed.

Bouillon Castle - Medieval castle nestling in a loop of the Semois river.

Montmedy - Site of successful siege by the French of the Spanish fortification in 1557. Subsequently modified by Vauban. One of the most spectacular and unchanged fortifications in France.

Rocroi - Extended bastion “Star system” fortification. Constructed from 17th century. (Several Maginot blockhouse can be found within walking distance).

Sedan Chateau - The largest Chateau Fort in France. Superb tour with excellent museum of the 1870 conflict.

Museum de la Dernier Cartouche - (Sedan) dedicated to the fighting in 1870.

Verdun - (80km from Sedan) Scene of the horrific battle of attrition between the German and French Armies in WWI.

Museum Ardennes Paix et Guerre - 30km from Sedan.

Battle of the Bulge - Several Belgian museums an hours drive from Sedan.

Montmedy Citadel -

A truly magnificent fortification. Originally built by the Spanish, though captured and enlarged by the French in the 17th and 18th centuries.

Fort de Vaux -

One of the many visitable forts to be found in and around Verdun.

Verdun offers the visitor many forts and a selection of cemeteries, museums and destroyed villages to explore.

Visiting Verdun is a truly moving experience.
